Eau d’amis is the results of two winemaker friends – Alex Schulkin, winemaker for The Other Right Wines and James Madden of Scintilla – joining forces to create something both unique and quietly experimental.
Both Adelaide Hills producers are known for organically grown wines made with minimal intervention, values that carry through to this collaboration.
Produced in a mistelle-style, this release is made by fortifying fresh, unfermented grape juice from multiple varieties within the 2024 harvest with grape spirit. As fermentation is largely prevented, it retains bright, primary fruit character – think grapes at their earliest stage.

No.8 blends Chardonnay, Viognier, Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. Intense aromas of orange marmalade and sultanas take centre stage, subtly accompanied by herbaceous notes, marzipan, chestnut pie, apricot and fresh fig. The palate is velvety, its sweetness lifted by a mineral zing and a flash of acidity, before finishing long and warm with a nutty, oxidative echo – a final kiss of complexity.
Traditionally served as an aperitif, it also makes for an ideal post-theatre indulgence. Try it with a little ice.
