There’s nothing quite like a nightcap to relax and reflect on the evening’s performance. Maighstir, Kentucky Owl’s masterpiece, is just the whiskey for the role — a smooth, complex bourbon that lingers like the echoes of a well-delivered monologue.
The American bourbon whiskey brand Kentucky Owl was first founded in 1879 by pharmacist Charles Mortimer Dedman, operating until prohibition when the government seized some 25,000 gallons. A hundred years later, the brand was revived by his great-great-grandson, Dixon Dedman, who brought the family business back to life. It has since been acquired by the Stoli Group, which took the boutique label global.
Maighstir (pronounced May-stir) is a collaboration between outgoing master blender John Rhea and his successor Maureen Robinson. Maighstir blends the best of Kentucky bourbon tradition with the refinement of Scotch whiskey expertise. The unique expression is crafted from a blend of 4-, 5-, 8-, and 9-year-old Kentucky straight bourbons, made using mash bills (grain combination) corn, wheat, and malted barley.
The result? A rich amber pour that opens with notes of stewed fruits, caramel, and vanilla. As it develops, a gentle spice takes the stage, adding depth and intrigue without overwhelming the senses.
Sipping on Maighstir is like replaying the night’s standout moments, savouring each detail before the evening truly comes to a close. It’s smooth, easy-drinking, and just the right amount of indulgence — a standing ovation way to end the night.
