Family-owned winery Nico Lazaridi produces wines with personality and character – wines that have something to say.
The Cavalieri range champions single-varietals. Centre stage is the Xinomavro, the crown jewel of Greek red wine, sourced from old vines over 40 years age in the mountain vineyards of Naoussa, Northern Greece.
The Château Lazaridi winery gazes up to Mount Pangaio, the mythological home of Dionysos, god of wine, whose Roman counterpart Bacchus lends his name to the very platform you’re reading this on. Some connections are too good to be a coincidence!
If you’re unfamiliar with the grape, Xinomavro is perhaps best compared to Nebbiolo. Light ruby-red in colour, it opens with aromas of ripe red fruits including cherry, blackcurrant and plum. The palate leans savoury, with notes of herbs, tomato leaf and spice, before finishing with a long, lingering finale.
Xinomavro is a wine built for the table, so best to play this nightcap with some aged hard cheese.
